Brother Matt Malcomson became very ill over the weekend. He was admitted to Mercy Hospital for a few days. While there, they were unable to identify the illness. After a few days of iv antibiotics they moved him to the ICU. Yesterday he was transferred to the Cleveland Clinic. Today they diagnosed him with Citro Bacteria.

It is with great sadness that Local 876 has experienced a Line of Duty Death. Mark Normington pass away after a courageous battle with Cancer on Sunday, August 10, 2014. He was 58 years old. Mark began his service with Spokane Valley Fire Department on June 16, 1986 and retired on June 16, 2012.

Dearborn/Melvindale Fire Department merger still going strong after first year 08/25/14 - Paul Hufnagel
Melvindale officials are projecting a $500,000 savings in the first year. The actual savings total was not available at press time. The city will have additional staffing and rigs at its station, which the city is renting to Dearborn for $1 a year, and additional firefighters will be available. At least 17 firefighters from three stations are dispatched to every fire.

As part of a continuing debate, two Des Plaines aldermen are urging the city's board of fire and police commissioners to reconsider a requirement that mandates all prospective firefighter new hires have a paramedic license to apply for the job.

At 12:50 August 24th, Truck 1, Squad A, Engine 3, Engine 2 and the Battalion were dispatched to the Salvation Army building downtown for a reported structure fire. Heavy smoke was encountered upon entry and SqA pulled their crosslay. The fire was discovered towards the back of the first floor and was quickly knocked down.
